Kev O'Donnell has been a mentor since 2014 and was closely involved in the creation of the mentoring service, joining the Board in 2017. Following a period as Treasurer, he now leads the charity's Fundraising activities.
I took early retirement in 2013 after a general management career within the aerospace industry. Too old for football, too young for bowls and with a phobia for gardening, I turned to the voluntary sector for inspiration.
I trained as a mentor in 2014 and have been lucky enough to meet some wonderful young people in that role. It has been fulfilling to find that many of the skills I gained in industry have been useful in the development of our growing charity. Working as part of the small team that has built the PROMISEworks’ mentoring service has been very satisfying and great fun. The prospect of continuing that development to the benefit of many more of Somerset’s vulnerable children is exciting.
When not volunteering I am usually to be found following the Wolves or bopping to Northern Soul music. As they say, you can take the lad out of Wolverhampton….
