Mentors wanted in the Bridgwater area

After dry January or Veganuary, will you make a resolution to help a youngster in Sedgemoor? YOU are needed!

PROMISEworks volunteers support vulnerable children and young people across Somerset, helping a young person to build the resilience needed to move forward and achieve their full potential - this could staying in school, keeping out of trouble or getting to university.

As one youngster wrote to their volunteer mentor this Christmas:

"I want to thank you for being so lovely and helping me with literally everything...You have made a major impact on my life (in a good way) and I really appreciate it"

Sarah Taylor PROMISEworks case-holder in Sedgemoor said

“There are 67 young people aged between 5 and 17 in the Sedgemoor who are waiting for a mentor to help them. Some need time away from the family home each week, others are looking for a positive role model, someone who will listen to them or someone who will help them to gain in confidence and independence. Their interests range from visiting museums to Formula 1, gaming, horse riding and Harry Potter so there’s something for everyone. Please contact me if you are interested in helping one of these young people.”

With 250 young people in Somerset awaiting a mentor, 67 are in Bridgwater and the surrounding area. We need many more generous hearted people to step forward, train with PROMISEworks and commit to helping one young person in the local community.

Sarah and her colleagues provide training and continuous support to volunteer mentors throughout the time they are part of the PROMISEworks family.

Volunteers come from all backgrounds and walks of life, as well as all ages. So, what is holding you back.

Volunteering is good for your local community, but it is also good for your health. Recent research has shown that helping others leads to improved physical health and increased feelings of emotional wellbeing.
