National Lottery Community Fund

In 2021, the National Lottery Community Fund awarded over £337,000 to PROMISEworks

In late 2021, we were awarded £337,000 over three years by the National Lottery Community Fund. This marked a strategic milestone in the development of our charity.  It will have two profound effects on PROMISEworks:

  1. This money gives us the confidence to accelerate the rate at which we can take our service to more and more vulnerable children and young people.  The additional Case Holders that it will fund will allow us to reach a target of more than 200 ongoing mentoring relationships by the end of the grant period in early 2025
  2. Of equal importance, the grant has enabled us to start the transition from the volunteer trustee leadership model that launched the operation to a more sustainable, professionally-lead organisation.  The National Lottery grant has funded the post of General Manager, allowing our new GM, Ali Hart, to flourish in that role and enabling the previously operational trustees to take a step backwards to focus upon governance and fundraising.

Under the leadership of our new General Manager, we are moving forward with our plans to become better-known across Somerset and to expand links with businesses and local partners.  This will help us to build a long-term support network that will improve both volunteer recruitment and fundraising.

The National Lottery Community Fund distributes money raised by National Lottery players for good causes. It is the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

Last year (2020), the National Lottery Community Fund awarded over half a billion pounds of life-changing funding to communities across the UK and supported over 14,000 projects to turn their great ideas into reality. National Lottery players raise more than £30 million each week for good causes throughout the UK.
